Dr. Michele Avissar-Whiting, Editor in Chief of Research Square, has been with Research Square Company for nearly a decade. She leads the editorial vision of the Research Square preprint platform, defining its editorial policies and co-leading the implementation of its SaaS-based tools and services that foster higher quality publishing and effective research communication for scientists.
As a key thought leader in scholarly publishing, Avissar-Whiting is regularly sought for industry presentations, through which she shares her deep knowledge of preprints, open science, research ethics, transparency in research, and trends in scholarly publishing. She is also heavily involved with ASAPbio, a scientist-driven non-profit organization promoting transparency and innovation in life science communication.
Avissar-Whiting holds a BS in Biological Sciences from the University of Rhode Island and a PhD in Medical Science from Brown University. Her thesis work was focused on microRNA profiles of head and neck cancer. After a two-year postdoc position at Brown University studying epigenetic effects of in-utero arsenic exposure, she began working at Research Square, where she has served as an Operations Manager, then Director of Operations for the company’s R&D arm before becoming Editor in Chief.
