Sarah Taylor became Research Square Company’s first Chief Operating Officer in 2020 and is responsible for overseeing strategic and operational aspects of the company. 


In her position, she partners with other members of the company’s senior leadership team, as well as its leadership board, to establish and implement near- and long-term business strategies. She leads a team of over 250 employees working in the organization’s machine learning and software engineering; editing, translation, and publishing production service delivery; customer service; and project management groups. Since joining Research Square Company over ten years ago, she has played a leading role in the expansion of the company’s business, both domestically and overseas. 

 

Taylor combines her experience as a PhD scientist with her formal business management training, where she's earned a variety of certifications in leadership and management, Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, AI & technology solutions, and customer service, among others. She leads a team to build novel tools and process solutions aimed at overcoming long-standing publishing challenges. She frequently partners with academic publishers to collaborate on how AI and other automation solutions can be used to improve publishing workflows, and she has participated in discussion panels on the same topic. She has also served on discussion panels and as a consultant and mentor for many former academics within and outside of the company to help them advance their careers outside the laboratory.


Taylor has served in six other positions during her time at Research Square Company. She started as a Contract Editor, then Quality Control Editor in 2010, becoming Operations Director of Editing Services in 2012, advancing to Vice President of Operations in 2014, and ascending to General Manager in 2018 prior to becoming COO in February 2020. 


Taylor earned her BS in Biology from Grand Valley State University in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She earned her PhD in Vascular Biology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
